Undergraduate Students
Every March the Writing Center hires undergraduate students who are interested in helping their fellow students with their writing skills. Look over the goals and requirements below to see if a job as a writing tutor is for you. If it is, we'd be glad to look over your application! Pick one up at 113 Campus Support Facility.

GOALS (What we want you to learn, develop, and become)

  • To learn the skills needed to become an effective tutor 
  • To develop an attitude that all written work by students has worth
  • To increase your own writing skills and your understanding of the writing process 

REQUIREMENTS (What you will have to do--and will be paid for)

  • Attend training sessions 
  • Attend staff meetings 
  • Observe experienced tutors in practice 
  • Tutor students in all phases of the writing process 
  • Find a project or function in the Writing Across the Curriculum Program that interests you and develop your expertise in it 

APPLICATION MATERIALS 

  • Letter, addressed to Dr. Kate Drowne, explaining your interest in becoming a writing tutor
  • Application form (available at the Writing Center)
  • Writing sample from any college course
  • Names and e-mail addresses of 2 faculty references
