The Writing and Communication Center supports graduate students at every stage of their academic and professional work. From theses, dissertations, and journal articles to presentations, proposals, and professional materials, graduate students can work with WCC consultants to strengthen their writing and communication skills. We also offer specialized programming designed around the unique demands of graduate study, research, and professional development.

Publishing & Public Speaking
Each Spring, the WCC offers focused academies to help graduate students build professional communication skills. Faculty and industry leaders direct workshops in publishing and public speaking; certificates are awarded upon completion.
SPEAK Test Prep
Preparing for the SPEAK Test? The WCC offers individual practice and feedback to help graduate students strengthen their spoken English, build confidence, and prepare for the test format.
Technical Editing
The WCC’s Technical Editing Service provides graduate students with focused feedback on theses, dissertations, and manuscripts for publication. Submit up to 20 pages for review by a Graduate Writing Coach and receive your edited document in approximately one week.

In-Person
Visit us in the Writing & Communication Center to discuss your project in person. This is our favorite kind of appointment! Our conversations are more fruitful face-to-face, of course. But also, some projects could use the brainpower of more than one coach. If you are open to it, other members of our team might join the discussion about your project, and suddenly you've got an impromptu focus group to test your ideas.
Synchronous
If you can't make it to the WCC but would still like to have a realtime conversation, you can schedule a synchronous appointment with us. During synchronous appointments, we'll meet via Teams (or Zoom) and we'll work through your project together. You can ask questions about our feedback, and we can clarify muddy points together. All you'll need is a stable internet connection and any prompts or drafts you'd like to discuss.
Asynchronous
You're busy. We get it! You're maxing out your time with classes and design teams, and you're still trying to have a social life. Maybe you can't make it to the WCC for an hour, but you'd still like our help with a project before it's due. When you schedule an asynchronous appointment with us, a WCC coach will review your document and leave as much feedback as possible during the hour you've selected. At the end of that hour, you'll receive an email with our feedback on your document. You can do this as often as you'd like!
