Curricular Support
The Writing and Communication Center partners with faculty across disciplines to make writing and communication a more effective part of their courses. Whether you are designing a new assignment, revising an existing course, or looking for resources to help students develop a particular skill, the WCC can help.
Our goal is not to prescribe how writing should be taught in your discipline. Instead, we work with you to identify what students need to do successfully and develop practical ways to support them.
Assignment and Prompt Review
Clear assignments make it easier for students to focus on the intellectual work you want them to do. WCC staff can review writing and communication assignments and offer feedback on areas such as:
- clarity of purpose, audience, and expectations
- alignment between assignments and course learning outcomes
- assignment sequencing and scaffolding
- rubrics and evaluation criteria
- instructions for using sources, research, or AI
- places where students may need additional guidance or practice
We can provide feedback on an individual prompt or consult with you on a larger sequence of assignments.
Course and Curriculum Consultations
If writing or communication plays a significant role in your course, we can work with you to think more broadly about how students develop those abilities over the semester.
Consultations might focus on integrating low-stakes writing, scaffolding a major project, building opportunities for feedback and revision, supporting disciplinary genres, or addressing recurring challenges you see in student work.
The WCC can also collaborate with departments and programs interested in strengthening writing and communication across multiple courses.
Canvas Resources
The WCC is developing ready-to-use Canvas modules and instructional materials that faculty can incorporate into their courses. These resources are designed to provide targeted instruction without requiring faculty to create additional writing lessons from scratch.
Modules may address topics such as planning and drafting, organization, revision, working with sources, disciplinary writing, professional communication, and responsible use of generative AI.
As the collection grows, faculty will be able to select resources that fit their courses and import them directly into Canvas.

Pair Curricular Support with a Classroom Visit
Sometimes students benefit from working through a writing or communication challenge together. Faculty can pair curricular support with a WCC classroom visit tailored to a particular assignment, project, or stage of the writing process.
A WCC consultant can introduce a strategy, facilitate an activity, or help students begin applying course expectations to their own work.
