Faculty Writing Program
Finding time to write is only part of the challenge of academic publishing. Faculty also have to develop ideas, sustain momentum across long projects, make difficult revision decisions, navigate peer review, and move manuscripts all the way to submission. The Writing and Communication Center's Faculty Writing Program supports Missouri S&T faculty through that process—from CFP through submission and revision.
Who Is the Program For?
The Faculty Writing Program is designed primarily for assistant professors prior to their third-year review who want structured support for developing and publishing their scholarship. Participants may enter the program with work at any stage.
Faculty Writing Consultations
Complete a brief intake form about where you are in the writing process and what kind of support would be most useful. The WCC Director will review your information and work with you to identify productive next steps. Consultations can help with:
- developing or refocusing a manuscript
- identifying and preparing for a publication venue
- developing a realistic revision and submission plan
- responding to reviewer comments
- restarting a stalled project

12 Weeks to a Journal Article Canvas Course
12 Weeks to a Journal Article is a self-paced Canvas program designed to help faculty move a scholarly article from project to submission through a structured 12-week process. Rather than asking you simply to “find more time to write,” the program breaks the publication process into manageable stages, with weekly goals, planning tools, writing activities, and guidance for making decisions along the way. Over 12 weeks, you'll work toward:
a defined article project → a complete manuscript → substantive revision → journal preparation → submission
Faculty can use the course independently or alongside individual WCC consultations when additional feedback would be helpful.
